EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — The men killed in a train crash in rural Shelby County Sunday have been identified.
A train crossing in Shelby County where four young men were killed on June 1, 2025.
Illinois State Police said the four were traveling westbound in a car on County Road 400 North around 4:20 a.m. when the driver ran through a stop sign and avoided the gates of a railroad crossing. All four in the car were fatally injured when it hit the train, which did not derail.Â
Driver – Wesley E. Carver, 19-year-old man from Neoga, IL
Passenger – Josiah T. Koons, 21-year-old man from Neoga, IL
Passenger – Cruz M. Watts, 18-year-old man from Effingham, IL
Passenger – Christian S. Beckler, 18-year-old man from Effingham, IL
