MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) - A candlelight vigil will be held Tuesday night for the young victims of an ATV accident near Mt. Zion.Â
10-year-old Jack D. Brinkoetter was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital Sunday afternoon. He and another 10-year-old boy were being towed in an inner tube behind an ATV when the man driving it turned on a slope, causing the tube to slingshot into a boulder.Â
Both boys were rushed to local hospitals. Jack Brinkoetter did not survive.
Sergeant Scott Flannery reported that as of noon on Monday, the second boy is still in critical condition.Â
Tuesday's vigil will begin at 7 p.m. in the parking lot of Mt. Zion Intermediate School. The boys are and were 5th graders there.
According to a social media post made by the shop Giggles in Decatur, cards, notes, and well wishes for the boy still in the hospital can be dropped off at the Brass Horn at 108 East Prairie in Decatur.
