DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The name of a 10-year-old boy killed in an ATV accident on Sunday afternoon has been released by the coroner.
Jack D. Brinkoetter was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital in Decatur Sunday afternoon. According to the Macon County Sheriff's Office, he and another 10-year-old boy were being towed in an inner tube behind an ATV near Mt. Zion.
The man driving the ATV turned on a slope, which caused the tube to slingshot into a boulder. Both boys were taken to local hospitals.
Sergeant Scott Flannery reported that as of noon on Monday, the second boy is still in critical condition. Flannery noted that reports of his death on social media were inaccurate.
Both boys are 5th graders Mt. Zion Intermediate School.
