Indiana coach Curt Cignetti says he’s “stalking complacency” as he makes sure there’s no championship hangover now that he’s orchestrated one of the most remarkable turnarounds in college football history. Cignetti took over a program that had the most losses in Football Bowl Subdivision history and led it to College Football Playoff appearances in each of his first two seasons. The defending national champion Hoosiers are now attempting to show they have staying power as a contender as they attempt to replace Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

Notre Dame and Ohio State reached lucrative jersey patch sponsorship deals totaling around $30 million as schools search for ways to cash in on the revenue-sharing era. Ohio State announced a multiyear jersey patch sponsorship deal with JPMorgan Chase. Terms of the deal were not released, but multiple outlets reported it at $17 million annually. Notre Dame also announced a jersey patch deal with SoFi Technologies worth $18 million to $20 million, according to multiple outlets. A sprawling $2.8 billion House antitrust settlement approved by a federal judge last month cleared the way for schools to directly pay players through licensing deals — and they’re already cashing in.

The Big Ten would do away with its championship game if college football adopts a 24-team playoff. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti says that’s a worthwhile sacrifice to get his preferred postseason format. Pettiti mentioned this possibility back in May as he stepped up his push to expand the current 12-team playoff to 24. He made the point clear Tuesday by conceding a 24-team playoff would mean no Big Ten championship game. The bid to expand the playoff to 24 teams also has the support of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 12 and Notre Dame. The Southeastern Conference remains a holdout.

Some of the Southeastern Conference's longest rivalries are on hiatus. The league is introducing a nine-game conference slate in an attempt to boost strength of schedule for what is now a playoff system that has a committee awarding seven at-large spots in the 12-team field. It means no Tennessee-Florida matchup for the first time in 37 years. LSU-Alabama, Florida-LSU and Georgia-Tennessee are gone, too. Under the new system, in place through 2029, each school will play three “annual” foes. It's the price of progress in the SEC, which has grown from 10 teams in the old days to 16 now.

Yahoo Sports is launching college fantasy football leagues featuring a pool of players from Power Four conferences and Notre Dame. This new venture allows fans to draft college stars such as Texas quarterback Arch Manning and Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith. The format resembles NFL fantasy leagues but with larger rosters and unique features like an "offense" position for bonus points. Ryan Spoon, president of Yahoo Media Group, said the goal is to enhance fandom for both players and schools. The stars of the college game today could help you win a title later this fall and, down the road, maybe another on your NFL fantasy team.
