CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Illinois Fighting Illini will soon have the largest video display in college football.Â
Illinois Athletics and Daktronics will partner to install a display totaling 17,315 square feet, which will be over 6,600 square feet larger than the one at Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium.
U of I Athletics said the display will allow for larger, more in-depth content, including live video, instant replay, game stats, graphics, animations and sponsor messaging.Â
The display will be installed ahead of the 2026 season.Â
"Under Coach Bielema's leadership, and with an electric fan base that is now filling our stadium to near capacity, our program has become one of the most successful and exciting in major college football. We are thrilled to make this major investment in our historic stadium – one of the sport's great venues – as we continue our efforts to enhance the experience for our fans, student-athletes and others, all with an eye toward building a championship program," said Director of Athletics Josh Whitman in a statement.Â
The display would be the fifth-largest in the NFL, and 3.4 times larger than the main display at Soldier Field in Chicago, according to Illinois Athletics.Â
Illinois football is coming off back-to-back nine-win campaigns for the first time in program history.Â
The Fighting Illini defeated Tennessee 30-28 in the Music City Dec. 30 in Nashville.Â
Additional details on the new display are available online.Â
