DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — For dozens of customers on Friday, their lunch at The Turkey Man was completely free.

Owner Von Thomas said that leading up to the start of food truck season, he felt the pull to give back to those who have uplifted him in his business journey.

"This is the neighborhood I live in. So, what better way to give back than right in my own neighborhood?" he said. "Decatur has been really, really supportive of The Turkey Man. And I thought, what better way to give back to the community than to let everyone sample The Turkey Man. Let's just do a give back."

The "give back" meant dozens of customers got a free taco or burger from the food truck. Thompson said that it also comes at a time when necessities are becoming more and more expensive.

"Free is a very powerful word. Times are hard right now. Some people are less fortunate and not able to come get Turkey Man on any given day," he said. "I'm thankful to be part of Decatur. I'm thankful to have a small business in Decatur and just — it's just God's plan."

The Turkey Man will be at Hardy's Race for the Lake and at The Devon on Thursday, June 4, and Thursday, June 11.
