5 Things to do this weekend

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The weekend is upon us, and there are plenty of things to do and see across central Illinois.

Here is a selection of events, markets, concerts and more happening Friday, May 29, to Sunday, May 31.

Strawberry Fields Fest

Get ready for a berry-sweet weekend in store in Springfield. The Strawberry Fields Fest will feature family fun, including face painting, photo opportunities, and live music from 6-9 p.m. from Johnny T-Bird on Friday and from Frank Powell on Saturday.

Vendors like Lewis Street Food Co., Best Day Ever BakeShop, Oakview BBQ, Söl Station, El Dorado and Elevated Appetites will have specialty strawberry menu items. 

When: 4-9 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday

Where: The Railyard, Springfield

Homestead Bakery Open House

The Homestead Bakery is celebrating 20 years with bakery samples, giveaways, live music, yard games and more. 

More information on the bakery — including how to buy their wonderful-looking cinnamon rolls — is online. 

When: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday

Where: The Homestead Bakery, Arthur

Family Fun Day

Enjoy Family Fun Day at Scheels Sports Park with a slow-pitch softball tournament, inflatables, hot dog giveaway and drawings. Sangamon County Animal Control will also be on site for pet adoption. 

When: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday

Where: Scheels Sports Park, Springfield

Bean Ballers vs. Dans

The Decatur Bean Ballers will face the Danville Dans (elite name) to wrap up their home slate in their first week in the Prospect League. 

When: 6:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Workman Family Baseball Field, Decatur 

Games on the Plaza 

Bring the family and relax in Downtown Champaign with Games on the Plaza. There will be jump ropes, bubbles, chalk, bubble blowers, jumbo Jenga, jumbo Connect 4 and jumbo chess for attendees to play. Live music will also begin at 2 p.m. 

There will also be Family Feud from 1:30-2 p.m., and families are encouraged to reserve their spot or show up at 1:30 p.m if space is available. 

When: noon to 3 p.m. Saturday

Where: Downtown Champaign
