CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The man arrested after a crash that killed a construction worker on Interstate 74 in Champaign was granted pretrial release Friday.
29-year-old Quamaine Juwan Fletcher appeared in court Friday after being charged with reckless homicide related to a crash that killed 65-year-old Steven A. Cornett on Wednesday.
Police said Fletcher was driving a pickup truck pulling a trailer on I-74 eastbound when he hit Cornett, who was working in an active construction zone.
The Champaign County State's Attorney's Office confirmed Fletcher was charged based on speeding in a construction zone and being distracted by a cell phone.
Fletcher's next court appearance is scheduled for June 26.
