Hannah Strong joined our weather team in 2024 when she moved with her family to central Illinois. Before joining us, Hannah worked at our sister station WDRB in Louisville, Kentucky, doing weather full time.
Hannah will appear on WAND from time-to-time on an as-need basis with the WAND Weather Team.
She has a degree in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State and is working on a Master’s degree in Science Translation and Outreach through the University of Kentucky. Hannah is Certified by the American Meteorological Society and has the Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association. She has also earned three Emmy awards for her coverage of the December 2021 tornado outbreak in Kentucky. Hannah has served on the AMS Broadcast Board and Station Scientist Committee. She was also a member of the AMS Early Career Leadership Academy. Additionally Hannah served on the NWA Board of Directors, was Governance Chair, and volunteered with the NWA Social Media Committee.
When she’s not doing the weather for us, Hannah works for a non-profit and spends her spare time volunteering with groups in Decatur and Springfield. She and her husband have a one-year-old daughter and love spending time outdoors. Say hello if you see her out in a local park or at a festival!
