CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The fans were sent home happy on Homecoming.

The Illini are 3-0 for the first time since 2011, as a second-half surge helped Illinois take down Central Michigan 30-9.

But early on, points were a little tough to come by. After an opening drive TD pass from Luke Altmyer to Pat Bryant, the Illini offense stalled.

The Orange and Blue added two more field goals before the half, including a school record 59-yarder from Ethan Moczulski before heading into the break. The Illini took a 13-6 lead to the locker room.

But the offense found its groove in the second half. Bryant added another TD grab and running back Kaden Feagin delivered the knock out blow with a rushing touchdown with 9:34 remaining.

Xavier Scott will keep the mayhem belt, as the Illini defensive back picked off his third ball in two games.

The Chippewas entered Illini territory five times but only mustered up three field goals.

The Illini (3-0) are halfway to a bowl game. But it will be a quick turnaround as they shift to their Big Ten schedule on Friday.

Illinois will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
