(WAND) - Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley baseball are enjoying their postseason success once again.

After defeating Mt. Pulaski on Wednesday 3-1 in the Arcola sectional semifinals, the Falcons are chasing a second-straight sectional crown.

As the top seed in the sectional, the program is optimistic they can continue their winning ways. While the standard has remained high during the 22 years as head coach, Dustin White is ensuring his squad doesn't miss out on a chance to enjoy the moment.

"Last year was not expected," Coach White said. "On the way home from state I asked, 'What did you really expect to win?' They said a regional. I think that's kind of the same focus here. We won a regional but it was the one - we were the #1 seed - we were supposed to win. Now it's come out and play baseball and have fun."

GCMS ran to a fourth place finish at state in 2024. Repeating such a feat isn't an easy task but one that the Falcons are prepared for.

"We've got some guys in our lineup that have a bit of pop," White adds. "There's a bit of belief that if we can get to those guys in the lineup with somebody on base, we can drive some runs in."

The team will attempt to keep their postseason hopes alive when they take on #2 seed Salt Fork on Saturday.
