DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Macon County political action group is planning a protest in Decatur Sunday in response to the recent shooting of Renee Good, a woman shot and killed by an ICE agent during a protest in Minneapolis.
Soy City Indivisible said they will hold a sidewalk protest on Sunday, January 11 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the corner of Eldorado and Franklin Streets. That is right outside the Decatur Civic Center.
According to a press release sent by the group, Soy City Indivisible is a "political action group here to exercise our 1st Amendment rights to address the government for our grievances."
Protests have sparked up around the country after an ICE officer shot and killed Renee Good in her car during a protest in Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Trump Administration officials said Good tried to ram federal agents with her car, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described the incident as an "act of domestic terrorism."
However, several democratic lawmakers have spoken against the narrative, with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey saying Noem's version of what happened is "garbage."
"We reject the lie proffered by the regime that Renee Nicole Good was a terrorist, but instead, was a mother, a writer, a motorist, and a citizen who was murdered in cold blood by incompetent at best, malevolent at worst, 'law enforcement' of ICE," Soy City Indivisible said in their release. "We demand that the agency be stopped, defunded, and held accountable for the crimes it has committed against humanity and against the citizenry it is charged with protecting."
More information on Soy City Indivisible can be found on the group's website.
