DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Millikin football is gearing up for its season opener in a couple of weeks.

The new coaching staff, led by Head Coach Billy Riebock, is not shying away from competition, and is making sure none of their players are either.

"We always say the depth chart is written in sand," Riebock, in his 1st year as head coach at Millikin, said. "Your performance will dictate what you get on a daily basis. As long as our players know that, which we've been very transparent as a coaching staff, and know they've answered the call, they know they can have no bad days."

The Big Blue players are backing up that sentiment and have fully bought in.

"Nothing's given. Everybody has to work," said tight end Caleb Patton. "I'm a senior and I'm working, competing against anybody for my position. We don't have any starters or anything."

All eyes focused on week one when Millikin travels to Iowa to take on Luther College.

"Attention to detail and then work and give fanatical effort," Aiden Etchason, a senior offensive lineman, said. "We have community support, administration support, and donor support. So, now it's time for us to come out, pay attention to detail, put full effort out."

The Big Blue are 0-20 in the last two years, but Coach Riebock says they have brought in a great class of both transfers and freshman to supplement players already there.
