DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Millikin football fell to 2-2 on the season after a 28-17 setback to Carroll as Big Blue celebrated Homecoming on Saturday.

A pair of late scores in the final quarter gave the Pioneers separation, preventing Millikin from putting on any pressure.

Big Blue was kept off the board in the first quarter, while surrendering a touchdown run to fall behind 7-0. Millikin answered back on a 7-yard touchdown pass on 4th and goal from Sylas Gomez to backup QB Cooper Christensen. The following drive, Carroll marched down the field for another rushing touchdown to retake the lead.

With less than two minutes to go in the half, Millikin made use of several quick passes to keep the offensive progress moving forward, eventually setting up a 31-yard field goal by Bryson Newport to send the teams to the locker room at 14-10.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Pioneers put up two touchdowns within the final three minutes of the game.

Millikin showed their pride by tacking on 7 points with only seconds left in the game on a 13-yard pass from Gomez to Kyle Corkill.

Carroll earned their first victory of the season in the outing, while Millikin dropped to 1-2 in CCIW play.

Big Blue go on the road at North Central College on Saturday, October 11. Kickoff from Naperville, Illinois, is at 6pm.
