WARRENSBURG, Ill. (WAND) — Warrensburg-Latham High School has announced the hiring of their new head varsity football coach for the 2026-27 school year.

WLHS approved DaTayven "DT" Thornton to take over as the next head coach, the school announced Thursday. He will also be a special education teacher at the school.

Thornton was a defensive coordinator at Normal West High School in Normal during the 2025-26 season, and he has been an assistant there since 2021.

He was also an offensive coordinator at Deltona High School in Florida from 2017-2020.

"[Thornton] is extremely organized, an outstanding communicator, and works to build relationships with his players," said WLHS Athletic Director Bret Reedy in a press release. "DaTayven is passionate about helping his team members grow as athletes on and off the field, and he will have the opportunity to establish his philosophy at all levels of our football program."

Thornton will take over for Aaron Fricke, who resigned in December to take a job at Lincoln Community High School.
