DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - Happy Thursday! We’ve been enjoying nice afternoons with sunshine and cooler temperatures for most of this week, but the lack of rain has become a serious issue in the last few weeks in regards to the drought across central Illinois.
The US Drought monitor update shows continued worsening conditions for the region. Parts of Moultrie, Shelby, Coles, and Douglas counties are now under an extreme drought. The rest of Central Illinois saw an increase in areas under a severe drought by 14%.

Today, the dry streak continues. We can expect a ridge to keep our afternoon sunny, and cool temperatures in the low 70s today. A weak low rolls in Friday, but the chances for rain are little to none thanks to the stubborn dry air. We’ll be heading into the weekend with more clouds than rain.
