DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Recent wind gusts have diminished in the wake of Wednesday night's arctic cold front. Now the bad news. Gusty winds (20-30 mph) will return overnight and Friday.
The wind, coupled with the arrival of single-digit temperatures, plus and minus, will send dangerously cold feelslike temperatures into the region. Areas north of I-72 can expect it to feel like minus 15 to minus 25 Friday morning. Farther south, it won't be much better with minus 5 to minus 15 expected.
Meanwhile, a storm is brewing along the Gulf Coast states and just off the coast of southern California. The two will combine to send moisture into the deep cold air residing over us. Keep in mind, this will be a high ratio snow. That means a small amount of liquid precipitation (say a tenth of an inch) will translate into a couple inches of snow. This will all take place this weekend, leaving plenty of time to fight off the frigid weather to pick up essentials.
Stay safe, stay warm and stay weather-aware.
