GIFFORD, Ill. (WAND) - The Midwest Ag Expo kicked off on Wednesday, drawing dozens of local farmers to the area. The crowd was full of multiple generations, as parents brought in their kids, accompanied by grandparents or other family members.

For many families, it's an annual tradition to visit the Expo and see what's new in the world of agriculture.

"It's been a great staple for the Ag community," said Jami Applegate, director of the Midwest Ag Expo. "We love it out here, it's been great. We're kind of in the middle of nowhere, but people will come and that's what we love."

Applegate said the timing of the expo is intentional, as winter tends to be a slower season for farmers. It gives them time to research new equipment and trends, and prepare for planting season.

There are nearly 200 vendors at the expo, ranging from insurance and real estate companies to large equipment vendors and seed dealers. One of those vendors is Kelly Duzan, who sells Fendt Farm Equipment for Kuhns Equipment.

"It's really interesting listening to the age ranges of people who want to talk," Duzan said. "Some of the younger generations are ready for the innovations and the technology, but the older generation is more conservative, but they know they need to move in that direction. So watching them work together and see that family generation grow is pretty exciting."
