SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield police said that two officers have been disciplined for breaking department policies in connection with their response to a shooting in January. 

Police pulled over a car of suspected gang members, and an officer opened fire, hitting and seriously injuring one suspect. 

According to Springfield police, Sgt. Raynolds shot Dominick Hobbs after the officer said he was running away and pointed a gun back at him. Hobbs was shot once in the lower back.

In the body camera footage released by SPD, Hobbs wasn't shown being shot because Raynolds' body-worn cameras weren't activated. 

Raynolds and US Marshal Cortes said they pulled Hobbs over and three other men driving in a blue Honda with stolen plates. They stated the four men ran off. 

Officers arrested the three other suspects, Malik Allison, Makai Allison and Kozzie Williams, who are being held in the Sangamon County Jail on weapons charges.

Springfield police said they found multiple guns on the suspects and in the vehicle.

Investigators believe the four are part of the SQAD gang and were planning a retaliatory shooting.

An SPD internal investigation found the body cameras were placed in sleep mode to test their tasers.

Raynolds received a two-day suspension and completed additional body camera training. Cortes got a one-day suspension and completed further training. 

Illinois State Police investigated the case and referred it to the Sangamon County State's Attorney, who determined Raynolds was "legally justified" in his use of force. He will not be charged.

The Springfield Police Department made changes for officers to ensure body cameras are in standby mode when responding to active calls.
