New sentencing hearing set for woman charged in DUI crash that injured Mt. Zion teen

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A judge has ordered a new sentencing hearing for a woman who pleaded guilty in a DUI crash that seriously injured a teen motorist from Mt. Zion.

In April, Karen Boehm originally pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Macon County court records said that Boehm's sentence from April 30 is now void.

Decatur police said the crash happened May 17, 2024, when a teen riding their motorcycle collided with a car turning into a parking lot.

In a sworn statement, police said the teen, who was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, had a collapsed lung and multiple fractures, including a broken pelvis.

Boehm was also taken to the hospital, and toxicology reports found methamphetamines and amphetamines in her system.

She will remain in custody of the Macon County Jail until her sentencing hearing Oct. 6.
