CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A man charged in a crash that killed a construction worker on Interstate 74 in Champaign had pleaded not guilty. 

Quamaine Fletcher, 29, was arrested in May after Illinois State Police said he hit a construction worker. 

ISP said 65-year-old Steven Cornett of Danville was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The Village of Tilton Police Department said Cornett served as the chief of police from 2010-17. 

Fletcher will make his next court appearance Aug. 19.
