TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. (WAND) - A driver was air lifted to the hospital after falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing in Teutopolis Tuesday.Â
The crash happened on Pearl Street, just north of State Street around 9 a.m.Â
Effingham County deputies said a 20-year-old woman fell asleep while driving, hit a speed limit sign, a concrete box culvert, and came to rest in a ditch.
She had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Teutopolis Fire Department.Â
She was airlifted for treatment.Â
