(WAND) - Shelby Electric Cooperative recently donated $400 to the Shelby County Rescue Squad.Â
Touchstone Energy Balloonfest Coordinator Kevin Bernson said, "Any funds collected from the annual fall balloon event goes back into the community."Â
Shelby County Rescue Squad had their field truck on display during the event and provided a volunteer to be on site during the Saturday and Sunday morning balloon flights.Â
"As a volunteer organization we rely heavily on donations from the community. We are grateful and blessed to receive donations like the one from the Balloonfest and look forward to assisting again at the 2026 event," said Chief Jordan Camic. "Many mistake us for being part of the Fire Department or Shelby County Dive Team. While we do assist with other rescue groups, we are a standalone operation. Events like this help us explain who we are and what we do."Â
The Shelby County Rescue Squad is made up of 15 volunteers. They respond to all area car accidents and help with other local emergency response agencies as needed. They operate out of the Shelby County Fire Department facility but hope to one day have their own building and a second needed rescue vehicle.Â
