DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Flash flooding near downtown Decatur on Wednesday stranded several motorists.Â
Video of the Franklin Street underpass just south of downtown showed three cars in several inches of water. It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was hurt.Â
The road has since reopened.Â
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for parts of Macon County Wednesday. It has since expired. NWS said law enforcement had reported flooding near Main and Water streets which is a few blocks from where the overpass is located.Â
As of 5 a.m., NWS said approximately 1.5 to 2 inches of rain had fallen with another inch of rain expected around Decatur.Â
Flash flooding can happen near small creeks and streams, along highways and streets, around underpasses, and in areas that don't drain well.Â
Water can rise and fall quickly.Â
NWS reminds drivers to turn around and avoid flooded roads. Several inches of water in a road can move a car and make it uncontrollable to a driver.Â
