(WAND) - Severe storms left thousands of households in the dark across Central Illinois Wednesday morning. 

As of 6:15 a.m. the following counties were experiencing power outages in the WAND viewing area: 

  • Coles - 2,319
  • Champaign - 2,294
  • Shelby - 1,498
  • Moultrie - 1,046
  • Douglas - 187

That came out to over 7,300 customers who were without power.

As of 8:50 a.m., power had been restored to most of the viewing area. Coles County has just over 200 customers still without power. 

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are hanging around Central Illinois through the morning, but the severe weather threat has wrapped up for the day.

Rain is expected to continue into the early afternoon.
