DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Area Arts Council is giving residents a new way to support local artists this holiday season with several gift and art shops.

The gift shop pop-up will run from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. It will focus on 2-D and 3-D art from local creators.

Meanwhile, the holiday art shop will go from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Dec. 2 to 23. Those shops will focus more on flat artwork, while giving the impression of a gallery.

All of the shops will be held at the council's location on 125 N. Water Street #100.

Katie Dunscomb, a program coordinator for the council, emphasized that the events will help shine a light on smaller artists in the area.

"I think it's a great opportunity for people to meet artists and creators that they might not know are in our community. Most of these are people that are in Decatur making art all the time. It gives them a chance to meet the artists and to find items that you wouldn't find at a big box store," Dunscomb said.

More information on the shops is available on the Decatur Area Arts Council website
