DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) Decatur kids got a chance to shop with their local firefighters.Â
The Decatur Firefighters Local 505 reached out to local agencies to find kids who could use an extra dose of holiday spirit.Â
The organization brought 16 kids out to make their holiday special, letting the children pick out gifts for Christmas.Â
Jeremy Ruderman, president of Local 505, said the need for a program like this in the community is evident.Â
"We are in this community every day, we see the need on a daily basis, we're in a unique position where we're invited into people's homes, and we see people on a very personal level," Ruderman said.Â
The event is completely run and funded by Local 505.Â
