DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — While the temperatures continue to rise throughout the area, many are trying to cool off at the pool.
As a trending topic on TikTok is attempting to influence people not to wear SPF, Splash Cove Pool Manager is encouraging patrons to apply SPF throughout the day while swimming.
According to the CDC, the use of sunscreen prevents sunburn, skin cancer and premature aging.
Decatur’s Splash Cove Lead Pool Manager Brianna Phillips said they highly recommend patrons apply SPF regularly.
“We encourage people to apply every 80-minutes,” Phillips said.
One of their lifeguards, Mason Hawkins is an avid sunscreen wearer and has noticed parents forgetting to apply sunscreen on their kids. “Parents are out here tanning; they sometimes forget and that can be bad,” Hawkins added.
The CDC recommends you wear an SPF of 15 or higher, and make sure to reapply regularly. They also suggest seeking shade, wearing a hat and/or protective clothing to shield skin.
