CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - Eastern Illinois University and ELEVATE CCIC, Inc. in Mattoon announced a partnership with the goal of boosting digital literacy and creating regional tech opportunities for EIU students, alumni, and the Coles County community.Â
The Digital Trades Pilot program will use Google Career Certificates to provide skills training to selected participants.Â
EIU is sponsoring 15 one-year scholarships to ELEVATE's Google Career Certificates program.Â
Scholarship recipients will have the chance to complete up to two career certificates.Â
Participants will get career coaching and job placement assistance after completing their scholarship.Â
President of Eastern Illinois University Jay Gatrell said, "This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our commitment to preparing students for the digital economy. By partnering with ELEVATE and utilizing Google's cutting-edge curriculum, we're opening doors to high-demand careers in technology for our students, alumni, employees and neighbors."Â
The Google Career Certificates program offers professional training in fields like IT Support, Project Management, UX Design, and Data Analytics. The certificates are designed to equip people with job-ready skills in less than six months with no degree or experience required.Â
Interim Executive Director of ELEVATE Evan Kubicek said, "We're thrilled to work alongside EIU in this endeavor. Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing participates with not just knowledge, but also the practical skills and support needed to launch successful careers and startups with digital trades."Â
After completing certificates, participants will be able to benefit from ELEVATE's network of employer partners and get tailored help in securing relevant job opportunities.Â
