DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The anticipation is building in Arthur for its annual fireworks show Saturday.

The show is doing things differently this year.

Larry Schlabach has worked on this show for a couple of weeks and talked about the new changes coming.

"So over 20 years, we've shot fireballs off and we've created a lot of new and bigger fireballs and made the show bigger and bigger," Schlabach said. "But this year, to celebrate our 250th birthday of America, instead of 250 candles, we're going to light 250 fireballs."

While Arthur's display ensures a good experience, it's also a good time to remember the importance of firework safety for individual use.

Decatur Fire Department Inspector Matt Jones said to make sure you know all the risks.

"Certain fireworks, if it's dry, the grass is dry and everything like that can pose a fire risk; the fallout in the break can pose a fire risk to roofs and shrubs and everything around the house, so definitely got to be careful," Jones said.

Arthur will have a parade set for 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by the fireworks show at 9:30 p.m in Jurgens Park.
