DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Take charge of diabetes with this upcoming class from the University of Illinois Extension.
Balancing Blood Sugars: Diabetes Meal Planning will help participants learn how carbohydrate counting and the Plate Method help to manage diabetes. Class members will leave with meal plans that fit around their lifestyles.
"Around 1 in 10 people in Macon County have diabetes, which impacts how carbohydrates are used by the body and raises the risk of harm to organs like the eyes, kidneys, and heart," says Caitlin Mellendorf, nutrition and wellness educator. "Meal planning helps individuals with diabetes better manage their blood sugar."
The workshops are free; however, advanced registration is requested. Please call the South Macon Public Library by Oct. 17 at 217-764-3356 or the Forsyth Public Library by Oct. 21 at 217-877-8174 to register.
