DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Without a lot of fanfare, Decatur Public Transit launched its Decatur Moves service. However, the response is already big. Within minutes, the first trip was booked for 5:15 a.m. Monday and throughout the day, people were booking trips to various locations in Decatur and Macon County.
“We’ve been working on it for almost three years now,” Lacie Elzy of the city of Decatur told WAND News. “Our drivers have been hired locally. They’ve been, these last few months, going through training.”
The service is similar to Uber. You can book a trip on the Decatur Moves app or call the dispatcher at 217-424-2821.
You can go anywhere in Macon County. For instance, you can book trips to take you to work or school. Schedule a trip to go to the mall, to the doctor or to the airport. The service is also inexpensive.
“Cheap ride,” stated Elzy. “$2 anywhere in the urban zone. So, the urban zone is the city of Decatur, Forsyth and Mt. Zion. Anywhere outside of that area in rural Macon County is $5 a ride.”
If you book using the app over the next 30 days you can get 5 free rides. Simply put in the word Free5 for the discount in the designated area.
Decatur Moves service runs from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week.
