MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) -Â Lake Land College is introducing a new associate degree program in Surgical Technology.Â
The program will prepare students to perform the work of surgical technologists, including preparing patients for surgery, helping surgeons with instruments, and following strict procedures to maintain sterile environments.Â
Students who complete the Surgical Technology program will be qualified to perform these functions in hospitals, medical clinics, surgery centers and dental offices.Â
The program will combine online classes with in-person labs. The college is partnering with two local hospitals, Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon and HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, for students to complete the program's clinical requirements.
It will launch in Spring 2026. The deadline to apply to join the first cohort in January is December 19. Students can start applying on the Lake Land College website. Then, complete the special admission form here. Â
