The Social Moms Club creates a safe space for moms to meet other moms and come together to form a community.

PANA, Ill. (WAND) — March is Women's History Month, but one local group is celebrating women year-round by bringing moms together. The Social Moms Club creates a safe space for moms to meet other moms and come together to form a community. Organizer Jenna Bland says, "As moms we feel lonely and isolated, so I thought, hey let's just meet up at the park for a park playdate." 

The Social Moms Club started as a small Facebook group but would quickly grow to include people from outside of the local area. In less than a year the group has grown to include over 1,200 people. "The response has been deafening. It has honestly been answered to prayers, something I never would have imagined would have come out of a Facebook group."

The group hosts many different types of events for moms and their children. "We do a lot of different things, some are mommy and me playdates, but we also do a lot of moms only stuff."

This month the group is hosting several events such as: Taco Bar Game Night, Healthy Happy Hour, and The Kids Easter Party. Next month the group will be going on a Moms Get Away trip to Southern Illinois, but overall, the goal is spending time with others in the community.

Founder of the group Jenna Bland has worked hard to make this group stand out from the crowd. Bland has a background in Public Health with a focus on Maternal and Child Health Education and uses her experience to provide education to others. "I am a total nerd when it comes to all things maternal and child health from pregnancy, labor and delivery, post-partum, breast feeding, and I feel like that is an area outside of community that moms are really struggling is having the adequate education they need to really survive motherhood."

The overall goal of the group is to provide a place for women to come together to learn, share, and receive resources and support from other moms.

Organizers say that any mom is able to become a member of the group and encourage those who are interested to check out their Facebook page, Social Moms Club.
