How Champaign County residents can save up to 80% on water bills

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — People in Champaign County could get help to save up to 80% on water bills.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is teaming up with Illinois American Water to offer the Illinois American Water Income-Based Discount Program.

Applicants must be customers of Illinois American Water. Applications can be done online here, or by calling 1-888-282-6816.

Discounts for qualifying customers are as follows:

Income at or below 50% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines — 50% discount
Income between 51% and 100% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines — 65% discount
Income between 101% and 150% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines — 40% discount
Income between 151% and 300% of Federal Poverty Income Guidelines — 10% discount

The Dollar Energy Fund offers an online calculator to determine if your income is within the range of eligibility for the program.
