SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) will kick off its 19th annual Illinois Product Farmers Market in May.
The opening day will be on Thursday, May 7 from 3:30-7 p.m. at "The Shed" on the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The venue can be found by entering gate 3, with parking located across the street.
The opening day will feature food from Nuthatch Hill BBQ, Edinburgers, and Johnnie O's Mini Donuts. There will be live music, family activities, and prize drawings. Visitors will also receive a free reusable Illinois Product Market bag.
"As we kick off another season, I'm proud to see the Illinois Product Farmers Market continue to bring people together while uplifting Illinois' hardworking growers and small businesses who make it possible," Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton said. "Ag connects us all, and farmers markets are about more than just fresh food on Illinoisans' tables. They're about supporting local farmers, strengthening our communities, and expanding access to healthy options across the state."
The market will be open every Thursday through September 24, excluding August 13, 20 and 27. It will feature a diverse lineup of vendors, a rotating selection of food trucks, cooking demonstrations and live entertainment.
The market said there are still vendor spaces available. Anyone interested in being a vendor is asked to contact agr.farmersmarket@illinois.gov. More information can be found on the market website.
