“When the heat gets this high, and of course the sun is beating down on you, people can die of heat stroke. So, we want to make sure everyone is staying cool and hydrated."

The Wakery will also have cold drinks outside in coolers.

In Decatur, the Salvation Army has opened the doors to its Social Services office for people to keep cool and offer cold water.

Major Randy Summit told WAND News during the winter that they offer a warm place to stay, so they decided to open the doors in the hot months to keep people cool.

"It takes a village, and we want to be able to do our part. These kinds of programs keep people alive. We want to make sure no one is suffering."

The Salvation Army will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
