(WAND) — In recognition of STI Awareness Month, Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) will be offering a free walk-in clinic on Wednesday, April 23 from noon to closing at all 13 health centers statewide.

PPIL said the most common STI symptom is no symptom at all, which is why regular testing is important.

“STI Awareness Month is more than just knowing your status, it’s about taking control of your health,” said Tonya Tucker, Interim President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Illinois. “We are so proud to offer a way for people to access STI testing for free. It’s also a chance for people to experience our high-quality care and explore all the great services PPIL provides including birth control, gender-affirming care, HIV treatment and prevention, vasectomies and more.”

Walk-in patients can sign up for a wellness visit or other service and get enrolled in Medicaid. Walk-in appointments will end 45 minutes before closing, are first-come, first-served and results are confidential.

Clinic participants can be tested for a variety of STIs including Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, two of the fastest rising STIs in Illinois, as well as HIV. Testing can be done either by a urine sample, finger prick, or swab test.

Locations in central Illinois include Champaign, Peoria, and Springfield. There is also a location in Carbondale.
