DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -- Scovill Zoo is now open for the season.

Despite the rain Saturday, several families stopped by to enjoy the opening day activities.

The rain and cooler weather did keep some of the animal indoors.

"We have a lot of warm weather species here. And so some of the animals like the primates. Their building is attached right to their habitat. So, if it is too cold then they just stay in their heated building and when it warms up. We can just give them access. But, other animals they get moved into our animal care center and so we need to wait until it is consitantly warm enough during the day and over night before they can move out." said, Lizzie Van Ert, Scovill Zoo Education Volunteer Coordinator.

Work is still underway for the Puma exhibit. They expect to be done in the next month or so.
