CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) - A memorial cross was placed on Saturday in remembrance of the victims of the deadly Chatham YNOT crash.

The crash happened in April 2025. Five children died after a car crashed through the building during an after school program.

Eight-year-old Bradley Lund, 8-year-old Ainsley Johnson, 7-year-old Kathryn Corley, 7-year-old Alma Buhnerkempe and 18-year-old Riley Britton died as a result of the accident.

Police said it's believed the driver suffered a medical episode behind the wheel.

Community members prayed together, sang hymns and placed a cross in honor of the young victims.

Dan Beazely with The Message of the Cross said that the cross would now be a location for the community to grieve.

"This is sacred ground here. This is a spot now where people can come and lay flowers, as you see, bring teddy bears. Just take a moment of reflection and pray with themselves, with the community and just continue that healing process. However hard or however long that takes," Beazely said.
