SIDNEY, Ill. (WAND) — After 50 years, Sidney residents gathered Saturday morning to open a time capsule that had been buried underground since 1976.
The event took place during the annual Sidney Fun Daze Festival.
The capsule contained a Sears and Roebuck catalog, a bicentennial booklet from 1976, items from the local church, and grade school letters.
The event drew people from across the country to watch as community members unsealed the capsule.
Brian Harmon drove three hours from Indiana to relive a piece of his childhood.
"I drove three hours to come up here for this, so it's really nostalgic for me," said Harmon. "Regardless of where I was going to be, I was going to be here today."
