CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - After eight hours of negotiations, Champaign County and workers represented by AFSCME Local 900 reached a tentative agreement on a new contract Tuesday evening.

The agreement completed more than six months of bargaining and avoided a Wednesday morning strike deadline

"We appreciate the hard work of the negotiators on both sides, the assistance of the federal mediator and especially the solidarity of AFSCME members that secured this fair agreement," AFSCME Council 31 staff representative Natalie Nagel said in a press release.

The terms of the agreement will be reviewed by union members who are scheduled to vote on it in the coming days.

Terms will be shared publicly once union members have had the opportunity to review them.
