DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The WAND September Educator of the Month is Brenda Bell.Â
Bell is a first grade teacher at Arland D. Williams Elementary School in Mattoon.Â
Bell's nomination came from the parent of a former student who highlighted Bell's work to care and love for her child who was dealing with a medical issue. The parent noted that two years later her daughter is thriving and the family maintains a relationship with Bell.Â
Here's an excerpt from the nomination:
We still have a relationship with her, on dress as your favorite person days at school, my daughter dresses as her. All holidays, my daughter makes sure we remember her. She shows up for her in all major events in life not just in school. She has shown us that teachers care and that they do love your children. She made my daughter find the fun and love in her school days and taught her life lessons and values that will carry on with her for a lifetime.
Bell's win came with a personalized plaque and $500.
