Sarah Michaels

Sarah Michaels Fernandez works for Global Pork Production Enterprises, Ltd. Sarah is responsible for swine education and outreach to consumers and AG groups. She is based in Quincy, Ill. Sarah is also a freelance agriculture communicator and provides AG commentary to radio stations throughout the region. She was a field reporter for “This Week In AgriBusiness," which is broadcast to more than 99 local television stations throughout the country.

After Sarah moved to Quincy in 2008, she worked for Quincy Newspapers Inc., in its digital media division for two years, and later launched an AG website focused on the Midwest: MidwestAGnet.com.

Sarah earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she majored in agronomy and specialized in weed science. After graduation she moved to St. Louis, Mo., to started her master’s degree in biology education. She completed her Masters of Education degree in agriculture education at the University of Missouri in Columbia. 

Sarah taught botany, entomology and multiple horticulture and grounds maintenance classes at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for seven years, and general K-12 classes for five years in Austin, Texas.

Sarah is involved in Illinois Agri Women’s: Women Changing the Face of Agriculture program. She is also active in: the Mississippi Valley Council Boy Scouts; Horizons/St. John’s Anglican Community Gardens and Food Relief Plot; the Historic Quincy Business District Design Committee; and many other community and social service organizations.
