SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A 16-year-old boy was arrested on weapons charges in Springfield.
Springfield Police officers saw two suspicious juveniles walking in the middle of 11th St. Sunday around 10 p.m., they said.
Officers said one of the juveniles was recognized as having been involved in disturbances, weapons violations, and shootings within the city of Springfield.
As officers approached the juveniles, the boy officers were familiar with tried to run away. Officers quickly caught him. They said a loaded revolver was found in his sweatshirt.
The 16-year-old was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID-ineligible, possession of a firearm and firearm ammunition, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The arrested juvenile met the criteria for incarceration, however there was no available placement throughout the state. He was placed on electronic monitoring and released to a parent.
