CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign County Coroner has identified an 18-year-old who was shot and killed in Champaign on Thursday.

Nicholas M. Griffin, 18 of Champaign, was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m. on January 9.   

Champaign Police were called to the 1900 block of Cynthia Dr. at 4 p.m. for a shooting. 

They found Griffin with life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. 

Police said Griffin and his companions were in a vehicle in a parking lot when someone else opened fire on the vehicle. 

CPD said the Griffin’s companions fled the area. 

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
