3 dead, 1 badly injured in Coles County crash

COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - Three people were killed, and another person was seriously injured in a crash Sunday night near Charleston. 

Illinois State Police were called to Illinois 130 just south of County Road 480 N., south of Charleston, at 5 p.m. 

Troopers said a Dodge Charger was going south on Illinois 130 near County Road 480 N. in Coles County.

A Ford F150 and a GMC Envoy were both traveling north.

Police said the Charger started passing a line of traffic and struck the Ford F150 and a GMC Envoy.

The driver of the Charger and two passengers in the Charger were all killed in the crash.

The driver of the Envoy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford F150 was not injured. 

The roadway was closed during the crash investigation and was re-opened at approximately 11:47 p.m.

 The crash remains under investigation.
