DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur School Board approved an e-learning plan for the next three school years Tuesday evening.
The plan renews the policies already put in place to offer instruction online when school cannot be open.
The plan outlines rules for teachers and students on the time they should be online, how they can connect with students and flexible options for make-up work.
The plan was unanimously approved by the board.
The DPS Board also narrowly approved a plan to hire Champions Before- and After-School Program for the district.
This program will replace the district's own before- and after-school programming that was previously offered free to students.
Champions does accept state vouchers from low-income families, as other families would be required to pay a fee for their students to attend.
Additionally, Rochelle Clark, who is set to retire at the end of June, was awarded a commendation for her years of service to the district.
In a speech before the board, she thanked the board and staff for their dedication in helping her bring improvements to the district.
"Thank you to all of you because we couldn't do this work without you, and I want you to continue to support DPS. Because let me tell you something, this district, I'm going to go back to my hometown, has it going on," Clark said.
Clark touted her achievements as superintendent, including improving security in the buildings, higher graduation rates, improved test scores, upgraded technology and investment in mental health services for students and staff.
