HARRISTOWN, Ill. (WAND) - Three kayakers were rescued after getting stranded and lost on the Sangamon River near Wyckles Road in Harristown Monday. 

At 10:17 p.m. the Harristown Fire Protection District was called out for a report of three people stranded and lost while kayaking.

Harristown Command requested mutual aid from the Decatur Fire Department, Niantic Fire Protection District, South Wheatland Fire Protection District, and Warrensburg Fire Protection District, along with Abbott EMS.

The Command Post was established on the Wyckles Road Bridge, with the Equipment and Personnel Staging Area set up at the Harristown Fire Station.

Harristown used two boats to conduct search and rescue operations. The Decatur Fire Department boat was staged as a safety asset. South Wheatland Fire Protection District utilized their off-road Gator along the riverbank to assist in safely transporting the individuals to safety.

All three kayakers were found and safely brought out of the area. The scene was cleared by 11:52 p.m.

There were no injuries reported among the fire department personnel or the individuals involved.
