DECATUR - Archer Daniels Midland Company officials are partnering with Ameren Illinois to provide a new source of renewable natural gas.
ADM officials say they plan to construct a pipeline leading from the Decatur waste water treatment facility to ADM's corn processing facility. Under the project, methane, which is a natural byproduct of the waste water treatment process, would be transported to ADM, where it will be purified into "pipeline quality natural gas." The gas would then be transported to an Ameren Illinois gas pipeline, where it will be distributed throughout the area.
ADM Project Manager Colin Graves says, "Consumers and the country benefit from the addition of more clean, renewable energy into the national network, and ADM will benefit by capitalizing on environmental credits."
Ameren Illinois Senior Director of Gas Operations Eric Kozak adds, "This project will support the delivery of clean, renewable energy to our customers while reaffirming our commitment to environmental stewardship."
Officials say the project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.
